It was another market day yesterday, and I was really hungry the day before so decided to have a bigger breakfast. As luck would have it, I still had pizza dough in my fridge – on about day 10 which is about as long as I can go without it getting all slimy. I actually prefer the dough to be days old before I use it – gives it so much more flavor. Yesterday’s breakfast pizza: 3 ounces pizza dough (8) shaved Brussels sprouts, zucchini and spinach with an ounce of part skim mozzarella cheese (2) and one egg (2) with a piece of chopped bacon (1). 13 smart points was spent on breakfast, but this was super filling.
One of the things on my “to do” list today is clean my desk. But pretty sure the bottle of hot sauce will remain somewhere on my desk, as when it’s just me, that’s usually where I eat. And I used to complain to Tony about eating in front of the t.v. every day!
My car said the temperature was 99, my phone said 93. Either way, it was hot out there. While I will always take heat over storms, heat does keep people away from the market sometimes as much as rain does.
It did start to pick up after about an hour, but this market is only 4 hours long, so I had to get my selling pants on! I love, love, love this kid Edmundo that I work with. When I realized people weren’t buying as many frozen patties (probably because of the heat) I started selling the crap out of the veggie burger wraps and salads. I think he made about 36 wraps or salads in 90 minutes and never complained once about the heat, or giving me the stink eye on selling everyone on prepared food. And he’s only 18 years old! Love his work ethic.
Before it got busy, I was enticing any Chicago area followers of my Instagram to come on over and have us cook them dinner since it was so hot.
That is our veggie burger wrap – a southwest veggie burger made of organic pinto beans, black beans, corn, artichoke hearts, quinoa, amaranth and millet with a bit of jalapeno pepper for a kick. It’s wrapped in a spinach flour tortilla, and I can make it mile with our signature mild roasted red pepper coulis, or make it spicy with our house made giardiniera. AND we can add a farm fresh egg and cheese – all for only $8!
You will not that I tagged the company I work for on Instagram. Sadly, they are behind the game on social media, something I’ve talked to the owner about. He knows he needs to get up to speed, but it’s a question of time and money, and sadly social media is put on the back burner for a while.
I brought a roast beef sandwich on a bagel thin with reduced fat cheddar cheese, and had some everything bagel pretzels on the side with a banana. I had the banana sitting on the table and when I finally got to it, the first bit was so hot – have you ever eaten a hot banana? It’s not good for the record. I wrapped it in plastic wrap and stuck it in the burger cooler to cool off.
In the end, it was a good day in sales – just shy of $1,000 which is good for this size market. I think there are only 18 vendors at this one. And not every vendor shows up every week, so I believe there were only 10 of us yesterday due to the heat.
The traffic driving back to the shop was pretty bad so I didn’t make it home until 10:15 last night and I was hangry. I had more Dietz & Watson roast beef – it’s shaved roast beef because that’s the only way Hannah will eat it. On the side was some cool ranch Doritos. Totally worth the 5 smart points, so dinner comes in at 10.
It’s not going to be as hot today – in the low 80s, so I plan to get my walk in and I am hitting they gym up for a group exercise class today! I don’t take advantage of all the classes they offer and that needs to change.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Make it a great day!
