After showing my “model” poses from Tuesday, I got about a dozen emails on the side from readers asking me what I use to wash/maintain my face.
It kinda made me chuckle, and it probably will make you chuckle too when I give you the answer: shampoo. Yep, being the low maintenance gal that I am I usually kill two birds with one stone and just wipe my face with shampoo when I am in the shower.
I do, however, use this for eye make up removal, the few times a week that I actually wear makeup. š Neutragena Eye Makeup Remover – lotion. It’s light and not greasy at all.
My lack of wearing sun screen in my younger years has caught up with me as you will notice in this picture. You can click on this link for the foundation that I use.
So every night before I go to bed I put this on:
While this is pricy at $10, a little goes a long way – I probably replace with about once every three months. Exciting shit, right?! š
Guess what? I didn’t have a fruit and yogurt parfait for breakfast! I know, crazy, but I felt like eggs. I baked a potato for Tony last week that he didn’t end up eating, so I diced up 6 ounces of potato (4 points) and sauteed it with green pepper, red pepper and 1/4 cup of salsa and of course some hot sauce (0 points).
I had every intention of making a black bean, corn, red and green pepper egg white omelet, but my pan was shitty and it stuck, so it ended up being a scramble with 3/4 ounce cheddar cheeese for 4 points. On the side was a delicious pear – breakfast comes in at 8 points.
When it came time to run it was partly sunny and 38 degrees – almost balmy! š Since I ran 5 miles last weekend without stopping, I told myself I had to keep running. I did a 5 minute walk to my “starting line.” The problem I have always had with running outside is starting out too fast – something I can control on a treadmill.
I didn’t stop – and ended up running 3 miles in 32 minutes – what??!! And being the technically saavy person that I am (not!) I was so excited I was able to upload this picture to Facebook.
If I can run that fast (for me) at 162 pounds, just think how fast I’ll be at 140. š
Remember that turkey breast I roasted on Sunday? I made an open face Kentucky hot brown that night, and had an idea for a bbq turkey open face sandwich.
- 1 ounce Kaiser roll (1/2 a roll, then I took out some of the bread guts til it got to 1 ounce (2)
- 1/4 cup chipotle bbq sauce (1)
- 3 ounces roasted turkey breast (2)
- baby spinch on the bottom (0)
- 2 tablespoons pickled jalapenos (0)
- 3/4 ounce of shredded cheddar cheese (2)
On the side I had carrot sticks and for dipping, 1 tablespoon light ranch (1) mixed with 1 tablespoon of my salsa (0). This amazingly delicious filling lunch comes in at 8 points.
Did you see that little condiment cup? When I went to Sam’s Club to pick up office stuff last week. Um, I don’t think my regular Sam’s Club has a restaurant supply aisle! I got 10 of these cups for $5. I left a couple at work, and will use the rest to use as tiny measuring cups when putting recipe ingredients together.
So after meeting with a team of doctors these past few days, the consensus is for Tony to continue with a certain medication for 2 weeks, and start to eat solid food. He has been eating Carnation Instant Breakfasts with chocolate ice cream the last couple days – turns out that’s pretty nummy. š
I had stir fry on the menu, so we decided to try Tony out on thinly sliced beef that was sauteed in a bit of soy sauce, olive oil, salt and pepper on a bed of white rice.
I only have plain stir fry bottled sauce on hand, but I decided to come up with a different sauce. You know I loves it spicy!
Spicy Honey-Mustard Stirfry Sauce (makes 4 servings, 2 WW points each, about 1/4 cup or 2 ounce each)
- 2 teaspoons corn starch
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon reduced fat peanut butter
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 tablespoon hoison sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (I used the teriyaki hot sauce Hannah got me)
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
Mix all the ingredients in a food processor and mix well.
I added a bit of olive oil to our hot wok – added the beef, let it sit for the first minute to get a bit of crust, then remove to a plate. Next add any veggies you want (I usually add about 1/2 cup of water to my veggies, put the lid on and steam them for 2-3 minutes – the water usually evaporates).
Then I tossed back in the beef, and 1/4 of the above sauce and cooked for 1-2 minutes until the sauce is thickened. I sprinkled mine with a bit of sesame seeds, and served mine over 3/4 cup cooked rice.
Here’s a quick tip – I cheated on the rice – there is a Chinese restaurant next to the post office I have to stop at on my way home from work every day – for $1.50, I can get a giant container of perfectly cooked white rice. š
- 4 ounces beef (4)
- 1.5 cups mixed fresh veggies (0)
- 1/4 of stir fry sauce (2)
- 3/4 cup cooked rice (4)
I actually loved this sauce – the tang from the Dijon mustard and the spice from the teriyaki hot sauce was great – I think next time I’ll sub in Chinese hot mustard to make it extra spicy. š
Alright kiddos, time for me to get in the shower. I have an idea for breakfast that involves egg whites, blue cheese and . . . honey. I know, it sounds weird, but in my head it turns out good – you’ll have to come back tomorrow and see! š
Make it a great day!
Haha…I wash up with bath and body soaps when I shower…and just use those for my face. when I was a teenager I used clearasil for a bit, but hardly. My mom always likes to remind me that I clean my face with the same thing I clean my butt, but hey, they’re both clean, right!? hahaha!
I don’t think i ever told you that I did end up getting that Almay foundation you recommended and I love it! Thank you! I’m also wearing a bra genie thanks to you and while I wish it wasn’t quite so sports-bra-ish, it’s very comfy and tight enough that it will continue to fit me as I shrink (knock on wood). Glad to hear Tony’s on solid food now. Wheeee!
That’s awesome Veronica!! I just like knowing that I don’t have to mess with falling bra straps anymore! š
Or poking wires! yay! š
I just started phase 2 of my learning to run schedule and I keep thinking I’ll never progress. But then that’s what I said when I started phase 1 so I’m hoping that soon I will feel the same way and move up to phase 3. I really want to be able to run a 5k by Thanksgiving. Who knows.
I know Tony has been missing your wonderfully delicious food!
I’m low matienance like you! Whatever is at first grab – shampoo or just plain soap:)
Great job with the run! I only wash my face with some oil free cleanser from Johnson and Johnson (I cannot even remember the name LOL). I don’t moisturize my face because my skin is oily. I am pretty low maintenance with skin care – although I do use a lot of sunscreen.
Maybe I need to start washing my face with shampoo!? Haha my skin used to be good, in last year it’s gone to shit.
You’re doing awesome with all this running. go Biz, go!
The stir fry looks awesome. You look amazing btw. I’ll have to try shampoo. My face has been having a freak out. I think I’m allergic to the cat and our air is really dry here.
Thanks Lisa! š
OK, I’m in, shampoo for now on, you have such great skin!
Hope Tony gets his appetite back so he can help you eat all your yummy food! Carnation and ice cream isn’t too shabby though!
I have to pick up some of that foundation stuff, my skin is blotchy and red at times now that I’m so fricking old! š
He had a Culver’s Butter Burger today!!
LOL…this post is going to put the face cleanser folks out of business! Everyone’s going to be racing to buy more shampoo in hopes of getting your glowing complextion! š
Tony’s on a steady diet of Carnation + chocolate ice cream??? Are you sure he even wants to get better??? (Just kidding!)
I use Origins Checks and Balances to wash my face. I have used it for a while and it seems to work well. I have tried other things in between when I’m out but I always go back. Whatever you’re doing Biz it’s obviously working great. I would love to have such beautiful skin.
Gorgeous stir fry too! It looks so colorful and fresh.
Keep up the running. You are killing it lately. And thanks for reminding me why I need to just cut the crap and get the hell out of the 160s. It kills me to think how much faster I could be running.
Hi Vat. SOOO glad to read that Tony is slowly getting back to health. I’m sure you are both so relieved. Take care of yourselves.
OMG that turkey sandwich looks so good! In fact, yesterday I got a turkey breast, so I might be having my own here pretty soon š
Congratulations on your run!!!! You rock!!! I think you should start Teaching healthy cooking classes, or better yet figure out how to sell your creations , like Medifast, or Biggest Loser do their meals!!!!
You are too nice Shelia – thanks! š
That’s right…that foundation! I think that was about the time I first started reading your blog & was amazed…totally something I need for my blotchy face. I can’t believe I never picked it up?! This weekend…it’s a must!
Can’t wait for the new breakfast idea – I’m all about bleu cheese & eggs…usually I’ll add hot sauce, so I’m intrigued on the honey idea you have!
That lunch looks crazy gourmet! Awesome.
I’ve washed my face with Neutrogena for as long as I can remember. It if ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? š
I loved your favorite things post today – I am loving the blood orange Chobani too – need to try the passion fruit one next.
Your skin is fabulous! š
I am loving that stir fry sauce. That looks incredible!
Your pictures are looking amazing by the way!
I wash my face with st. ives apricot stuff if I’ve been breaking out, but otherwise it’s shampoo or whatever bar soap is in the shower, and then I moisturizer. No foundation or anything like that – only makeup I wear is mascara and chapstick.
Super you on that speediness!
Man, those 3 meals look awesome. So veggie-rific. So colorful. I’m hungry, and I just had breakfast. Can you come cook for me please?
I am also low maintenance on the face. I should probably start using lotion before bed or something. I had about 10 years in Cali with not enough sunscreen, so I’ve got some age spots. When I run, they get really dark, and one of my coworkers told me “you’ve got dirt on your face.” No, I don’t. š
Aw, well if it makes you feel any better, when I was sitting with my sister on my Mom’s porch last summer, she tried to use her finger nail to scrape off the brown stuff!
I’ve never heard of using shampoo to wash your face, that’s nuts, but that’s totally awesome that it works!! I use Clean & Clear in the morning then Alba Botanica at night… seems to work best for me. Neutrogena moisturizer is my favorite too, great product for the price, use it every day! Oh and I just bought some pickled jalapenos at the Asian market, hadn’t thought to put them on a sammich like this, looks SO good!!!
Woot for pickled jalapenos! I was joking with Tony that I need to start putting them in breakfasts! š
I alternate between an apricot scrub (but not the one that has salicylic acid – that burns my face) and a Mary Kay facial wash. Shampoo cracked me up because I know that’s what Jeff uses – he could rival you with the fast shower/morning get ready!
As yummy as the instant breakfast and ice cream is, I’m sure Tony will be glad to get back to eating your delicious meals. Looks like things are progressing for him – woot!!!
I need to take your suggestions on the face cream and the foundation. My skin is horrible. It’s incredibly red from rosaesa and now that I turned 40 (gulp), I’m noticing it’s getting worse. I’ve always been very lazy about makeup and stuff and haven’t worn foundation in YEARS. I’ve never found one that actually looks good and isn’t goopy. I also haven’t looked TOO hard. Like I said, lazy.
Sounds like Tony has a winner with the carnation and chocolate ice cream! I think he should do a blog post with the recipe! š
I hope you try it – be careful though – a little goes a long way and if you use too much, you can tell you are wearing foundation. It covers my red and brown spots! š
Shampoo? Really? I’ve never heard of that, but I’m going to give it a try!
I wash my face with water, and in the rare instance that I’ve worn eye makeup, I use an Oil of Olay make up remover wipe. My sister had an elaborate routine with Noxema, but I was always a no fuss girl and my makeup is pretty minimal. Good news that Tony can graduate from liquids to real foods! Especially when he’s got a first rate chef as his bride š
Completely forgot about Noxema!!
I’m a Clinique girl all the way. Years ago my dermatologist told me that soap and water was the best way to cleanse so I’ve stuck with it. I’m laughing at your “expensive” facial moisturizer… I spend at least double that for mine š
YOUR POST TODAY MADE ME SMILE! You are beautiful Helen! š
Maybe that’s why we are twins because I wash my face with shampoo too! š
Great food you had Biz!
Twin powers activate!
Sometimes the simplest routines work best! No fancy products needed! That egg scramble look delicious. Now I want brinner. Or brunch. Glad Tony can start again on solids! I’m sure he is too
hey skippy mom, I always at thanksgiving when turkeys are so cheap, i buy an extra 3 and put in deep freezer, so every 3 months i make a turkey. Way to cut cost on meat thru out the year, i got these at 79 cents a pound and one was free for buying over 150 dollars worth of food..just a thought for next year, now turkeys are ridiculus priced..
Thanks for sharing your beauty tips Bizzy. We should all have your gorgeous skin [I wish! š So pretty] I think it is important that you eat super healthy, exercise and stay hydrated too – very important to pretty skin, right?
I need to roast a turkey, but I am scared of what one will cost here/this time of year. You get the most amazing prices on food where you live – here, not so much. I love that sandwich that you made, but that stir fry is incredible. It is not only eye candy [you really ought to be a chef girlie] but I bet it tastes fantastic.
Now I have to send you a hat, just to get you out of that ‘mo better pimp’ hat. giggle
Good news on Tony. I hope he does start eating more. I wish I had some suggestions, but your food speaks for itself and I can’t imagine anything more enticing.
And the parfait? Don’t laugh – I ate “yours” for you this morning. I was craving that bad boy all night. heehee
What an awsume idea, i think i will have to try that for a week and see how my face feels, i use costco bar soap and i bet its probly not as good as using my shampoo which is dove.
I made a lasagna using slice turkey breast from the deli as my pasta noodles, i mixed low fat ricotta with saute mushrooms and drained frozen spinach, used as a layer and then i used italian style chicken sausage, spicey of course, was thin on my layers of mozz cheese…but it comes in with low cals, low carbs all depending on spagetti sauce. I ended up using fred meyer brand jarred pizza sauce with a little extra italian seasonsings, only 4 carbs, little sugar.. I was quite surprised at how well it turned out…i cut up in squares and put the rest in freezor for pull out meals. Dont know the WW points though…
just sharing….
Have a great weekend:)
Sans the mushrooms, that sounds delicious! You had me at spicy!
wowsa…you are on a roll with your running! Goooood job!
Dove soap…that is what I use on my face…I have used it for years and years and years…
I’m intrigued with the blue cheese breakfast. I picked up some Maytag blue cheese (OMG) about a week ago for a dish, and still have some left and need ideas…so I am looking forward to your creation!
It turned out really good – turns out blue cheese and honey are a good combo!
